Same moment · same chart
This is the cleanest test of what a chart is. If two people share every input and share the output exactly, the output cannot be a personality profile — it can only be a structure. That is the position this page demonstrates rather than argues.
Same day, same minute, same gender: pillars, day master, element tally, start age and the whole luck sequence come out identical. Not approximately — deterministically, because the same input can only produce one output.
| Compared | Twin A | Twin B | Identical? |
|---|---|---|---|
Geng Wu | yes |
| Day master | 甲 Jia | 甲 Jia | yes |
| Element tally | {"木":2.5,"火":3,"土":4,"金":1.5,"水":2} | {"木":2.5,"火":3,"土":4,"金":1.5,"水":2} | yes |
Xin Si Geng Chen Ji Mao Wu Yin Ding Chou Bing Zi Yi Hai Jia Xu Gui You Ren Shen | yes |
There are only three mechanisms by which twins end up with different charts, and all of them break the premise of the same moment:
On the example day, 1985-07-04 (no daylight saving), born at 22:58 and at 23:00:
| Birth moment | Day pillar | Hour pillar | Day master |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22:58 | 甲辰 Jia Chen | 乙亥 Yi Hai | 甲 Jia |
| 23:00 | 乙巳 Yi Si | 丙子 Bing Zi | 乙 Yi |
Two pillars moved at once. Treat the pair as one chart and everything downstream is computed from the wrong one — which is why the roll-over rule is printed on this site's pages rather than buried.
The example year stem is 乙 (阴). Luck direction follows from the year stem's polarity and the gender; the four pillars do not move:
| Gender | Direction | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Male | Backward (ni pai) | Yin-year male → backward |
| Female | Forward (shun pai) | Yin-year female → forward |
The traditional observation is that twins share a chart but not a life. The observation is correct — two people with one chart do live differently. And the fact that it can be stated at all shows the chart is not a verdict: if it decided a life, the two would have the same one. This site therefore treats a chart as a structural position rather than a script, which is why no page here prints a score or a fortune.
A note on what this page deliberately does not do: the popular versions of this material assign a fixed personality to each term — one character per branch, one destiny per stage. This site rejects that framing. What is published here is a structural position: which element sits where, on what kind of ground, with which tenants inside. The same term reads differently under a different month command, and no meaningful judgement exists without the other characters of the chart. Where the tradition offers a reading it is labelled as the tradition's; this site's own contribution is that every number and term on this page is computed, versioned and checkable against the methodology page.
These are the questions specific to this page; broader conventions live on the methodology page.
Every enumerable component of ba zi has its own page here. Each page is computed by the same engine and can be checked item by item — none of it is a personality table.
