Snake compatibility — fixed-table relations with the other eleven animals

Which animals pair with the Snake? By the fixed branch tables: 3 closest (the six-harmony partner and the two trine peers), 3 strained (clash, harm, break, punishment), and 6 with no fixed relation. **Every relation here is a lookup, not a score — this page gives no compatibility percentages.**

The full 12-row relation table

Computed row by row: every fixed-table relation between the Snake and the other eleven animals (plus its own sign). One animal can appear on several tables — tables are independent, and this page lists them all side by side.

The three closest: one six harmony, two trine peers

Six harmony — folk tradition calls it the secret friend — is the only one-to-one union in the six tables: for the Snake it is Monkey, combining into 水. The trine is a group of three: the Snake sits in the Metal trine with Rooster and Ox. These three are what tradition calls the best matches — a table fact, not a personality claim.

The 3 strained: clash, harm, break, punishment

Clash Pig, harm Tiger, break Monkey, punishment Tiger, Monkey. The four tables are independent and can stack, so the strained group is a different size for every animal.

Note: the break partner of the Snake is the same animal as its six-harmony partner (<a href="./monkey-zodiac-compatibility"><b lang="zh">申</b> Monkey</a>). The break and harmony tables coincide on the Tiger–Pig and Snake–Monkey pairs; schools differ on whether an already-harmonious pair should still count as broken. This site lists both columns and does not pick one for you.

Overlap declared: Monkey (申) is at once the Snake's six-harmony partner and on its break/punishment tables — the tables genuinely coincide on these pairs, and the 12-row table below prints every label that applies.

Why this page has no compatibility percentage

Six harmony, trine, clash, harm, break and punishment are **fixed tables**: a pair is either on a table or it is not. Any number like 92% compatible invents precision that the tables do not have — dressing a structural relation up as a statistical one. This site prints all six tables and the basis for every row classification, so you can check every cell yourself. Whether these relations feel good in real life is not a question any table can answer.

What this page deliberately does not do. The zodiac is the one part of this system that the popular market has turned into a horoscope: a fixed personality per animal, a fortune per year, and a lucky charm sold to fix the year that clashes with yours. This site publishes none of that. What is here is a calendar relation: which Gregorian years belong to this animal, the exact minute each of those years begins, and which animal-branches stand in a defined relation to it. Those relations are fixed tables — the same six-harmony, clash, harm and break tables used everywhere else on this site — and not one of them carries a fortune score. In particular, "offending the year" (fan tai sui) is a structural fact, not a curse, and this site sells no remedy for it.

FAQ

Why is there no match score for Snake compatibility?
Because zodiac relations are six fixed lookup tables (six harmony, trine, clash, harm, break, punishment). Being on a table is a checkable fact, not a probability. A percentage would imply a hidden scoring system beyond the tables — this site does not invent one.
Which three animals are the best matches for the Snake?
By the tables: six harmony Monkey (申) (combining into Water), and the trine peers Rooster (酉) and Ox (丑) (Metal trine). These are the only harmony relations the Snake has; no other animal shares a union table with it.
Is the clash animal of the Snake always a bad match?
Clash, harm, break and punishment are structural relations between year branches, listed here as tables. They do not mean a relationship is doomed: some pairs appear on several tables at once (Tiger and Pig are both harmony and break), and schools handle that differently — this page shows both columns. Real compatibility is not decided by one year-branch table.
What about the Snake with another Snake?
Same sign appears on none of the six tables (巳 is not among the self-punishing branches Chen, Wu, You, Hai), so this page classifies it as no fixed relation.
Does this page replace a full chart comparison?
No. The zodiac is only the year branch. This page answers which fixed-table relations hold between two year branches. A full comparison reads the pairwise relations across both entire charts (six stem pairs and six branch pairs) — that is what the compatibility calculator does, and it likewise refuses to output a match percentage.
