Is BaZi Scientific?

The honest answer has two halves. Half of what a chart is made of is arithmetic, and arithmetic can be checked by anyone. The other half — what a chart is supposed to mean about a life — cannot be checked at all, and this site does not sell it.

What this site claims

Three layers; only two can be checked

LayerWhat it isCheckable?
Calendar layerlichun instants, when the cycle turns, the continuous day countYes — objective
Convention layermonth-pillar double weight, hidden stems at half weight, the late-Zi roll-overYes — for consistency and disclosure
Reading layerwhat a chart means about a personNo

The evidence this site can actually show

The numbers below are computed from the repository at build time, not self-assessed. They are evidence of engineering reproducibility, not of divinatory validity — and that distinction matters.

What this site does not claim

Why the split matters

Blending the two halves is the easiest and least honest thing to do in this field: borrow the credibility of a checkable fact, such as lichun falling at 04:02 on 4 February, to underwrite a claim that cannot be checked at all. This site hands over the checkable part — take it and verify it — and labels the uncheckable part explicitly, here and in the disclaimer, with no grey zone in between.

What this site claims

A note on what this page deliberately does not do: the popular versions of this material assign a fixed personality to each term — one character per branch, one destiny per stage. This site rejects that framing. What is published here is a structural position: which element sits where, on what kind of ground, with which tenants inside. The same term reads differently under a different month command, and no meaningful judgement exists without the other characters of the chart. Where the tradition offers a reading it is labelled as the tradition's; this site's own contribution is that every number and term on this page is computed, versioned and checkable against the methodology page.

Frequently asked

These are the questions specific to this page; broader conventions live on the methodology page.

So is BaZi scientific?
The calendar and arithmetic layers are, in the sense that they are deterministic and independently reproducible. The reading layer is not, and this site does not present it as such.
Why build it then?
Because a deterministic, fully published implementation of a traditional system is a legitimate thing to build and check — like a well-documented ephemeris. Once the numbers are trustworthy, arguments about meaning can at least be conducted on solid ground.
Do the schools ever disagree?
Frequently, and the disagreements are published rather than hidden: two colour systems for date selection, two tables for name elements, the late-Zi boundary. Each one has a methodology card stating both readings.
Is there any claim about accuracy anywhere on the site?
No. There is no accuracy figure, no testimonial and no success rate. If a page ever shows one, it is a bug and should be reported on the corrections page.
