Six Clash (Liu Chong): every pair, derived

The six clashes are the hardest opposition among the twelve branches: each branch has exactly one clash partner, six seats away on the wheel. This page lists all six pairs with their element relations.

Computed facts (engine-verified + build-time assertions)

This page is generated from engine vv0.14.0; the pairs follow convention R35 on the methodology page, and the generator refuses to render if any cross-check fails. Audit item by item.

Pairs6 (each branch has exactly one clash)
Geometryclash = +6 on the wheel, exactly past the halfway mark — build-time assertion (12/12)
Element patternWater-Fire twice, Metal-Wood twice, Earth-Earth twice (Chen and Si and Xu and Hai are all Earth yet clash each other)

A note on what this page deliberately does not do: the popular versions of this material assign a fixed personality to each term — one character per branch, one destiny per stage. This site rejects that framing. What is published here is a structural position: which element sits where, on what kind of ground, with which tenants inside. The same term reads differently under a different month command, and no meaningful judgement exists without the other characters of the chart. Where the tradition offers a reading it is labelled as the tradition's; this site's own contribution is that every number and term on this page is computed, versioned and checkable against the methodology page.

Frequently asked

Why is the clash +6?
The clash is an antipodal relation: six seats on a twelve-seat wheel is exactly the far side of the circle. This site enforces it as a build-time assertion (12/12) — any table slip refuses to render.
How do Zi-Wu and Chen-Xu differ?
By element relation: Zi-Wu is Water against Fire, while Chen-Xu is Earth against Earth (same element). Of the six pairs, Water-Fire and Metal-Wood take two each, Earth-Earth two — all marked per pair in the table.
Does a clash mean conflict?
No. A clash is a structural relation (antipodal, past the halfway mark); the classics read it as stirring, opening or removing. Good or bad depends on whether the branch is favored — a whole-chart judgment this page does not make.
